MÉRIDA INTERNATIONAL CLASSICAL THEATRE FESTIVAL

  • Date: From the beginning of July to the end of August.
  • This festival is a tribute to Greco-Latin traditions. Theatrical performances, operas, ballets and classical music concerts are held in the emblematic Roman Theatre of Mérida, offering spectators a unique experience in an incomparable historical setting.

EASTER

  • Date: Week preceding Easter Sunday.
  • Recognised as a Festival of International Tourist Interest, Easter Week in Mérida is especially famous for the procession of the Santísimo Cristo de la O, which takes place in the early hours of Good Friday morning in the Roman Amphitheatre, offering a liturgical spectacle full of emotion and solemnity.

ROMAN CARNIVAL

  • Date: Between February and March.
  • It is a festival that combines the spirit of carnival with the Roman history of the city. The comparsas and chirigotas liven up the streets, culminating in events such as the Concurso de Comparsas y Chirigotas and the traditional Entierro de la Sardina (Burial of the Sardine).
